Simplicity

I started reading the book Velvet Elvis this evening.  The book is written by Rob Bell, and it flows similar to his videos.....makes me a bit sea sick.  If you have ever seen these videos (or read the book) the camera man looks like he was from the Blair Witch Project (not the quality, but the movement) and they zoom in and out.  He is always doing something somewhat odd, like walking through a grocery store or standing in his front yard.  I am sure my perspective is due to my lack of any creative gene, but this is how I feel when I read this book.

All of this being said, I love the guys messages.  Some times he makes me think so hard, and others he dials down the speed of my brain to realize something bigger than the details I am focusing on.....this is what happened today.

He is discussing "The Way".  His main point is how we all make this so complex.  He points out, "This isn't irrational or primitive or blind faith.  It is merely being honest that we are all living a 'way'".

So, here are his great points for living simple, and having your "way" lead you to God.

  • Being generous is a better way to live
  • Forgiving people and not carrying around bitterness is a better way to live.
  • Having compassion is a better way to live.
  • Pursuing peace in every situation is a better way to live
  • Listening to the wisdom of others is a better way to live.
  • Being honest with people is a better way to live.
These make our "way" sound pretty simple......
